The Robarts School for the Deaf is located in London, Ontario and was established in 1973. It is one of the three provincial schools for Deaf students in Ontario. The large, modern building includes preschool, elementary and high school classrooms; recreational and dining facilities; student lodging; and a variety of support services. Robarts School for the Deaf is adjacent to both the John Paul II Secondary School and Fanshawe College of Applied Arts and Technology.
Dedicated Deaf, hard of hearing and hearing teachers, administrators, classroom assistants, resource services personnel, student support counselors and support staff work together at Robarts School for the Deaf to meet the diverse needs of the students. All components of the school – academic, residential, and recreational – embrace a bilingual-bicultural philosophy.
A low student/teacher ratio ensures that students attending Robarts School for the Deaf will receive individual attention that focuses on each student’s interests, abilities and needs. Some students commute from their homes on a daily basis. Others take advantage of the unique five-day-per-week lodging opportunities on the Robarts School for the Deaf campus, returning home every weekend. Transportation to and from school for all students is arranged by the local school board at no cost to parents.
